Hiring a Maid Service for your House

Posted: June 13, 2011 in Home Organization Tips

A good maid service may not be that hard to find. There are plenty of maid services out there who will do an excellent job in tidying up your home. Here are tips that will help you feel at ease with the company you choose to transact with.

Safety is always the top priority

If you have children or pets, then safety is always a huge concern. Choose a maid service that doesn’t use any chemicals when they clean. Make sure the company is ‘Green Certified’. When hiring a maid service, ask the following questions during initial interview:

  • Does the company use solutions that are certified by the ‘Green Seal’?
  • Do their maids get formal training?
  • Do they use multi level filtration closed vacuums for enhanced air quality?

Another safety issue that concerns many homeowners is that they leave their valuables and other possessions in a vulnerable position with a maid coming into your home. Make sure you choose a maid service company with verifiable references. Ask the company if they perform criminal background checks on all their employees. Find out if the maids are employed under the company or subcontractors. A maid service that employs subcontractors will generally not provide training and there may not be imposed standards for quality.

Finding a reliable maid service

Maid service companies will usually give free estimates of your home. Know when and how often you need maid cleaning services. Choose a company that is bonded and insured. This will not only protect you from theft but will protect the worker as well, in case of injury.

Liability insurance is also a must as accidents sometimes happen in this line of work. The maid service insurance shouldn’t only cover the maid, but your house and the company as well. Find out if the organization has Workmen Compensation for their workers.

The maid should also come with her own cleaning supplies on hand. You shouldn’t be paying anything out of the pocket aside from what you have agreed on the contract. Make sure you read the fine print before signing any contract.

And finally, ask the company if cleaning work is guaranteed. Find out the company’s protocol for quality assurance. If you are paying for high quality services, make sure you are getting it.
