Extreme dieting may also increase the risk for the development of eating disorders. Eliminating certain food groups, skipping meals and taking supplements are not highly recommended by health experts. On the other hand, these practices will more likely lead to medical issues. Slashing calories in the diet leads to weight reduction but this weight loss also includes muscle mass which is detrimental to your health. Rapid weight reduction using calorie restriction results to fat, water and muscle loss that decreases metabolism. It also creates a change toward a higher fat percentage of fat, and increases your risk for diabetes and metabolic syndromes. Do not go under 1,200 calories daily or you will struggle to provide nutrient needs, satisfy hunger and fuel activity.

Dubious weight loss and diet pills

Potions, diet pills and concoctions that are bought over the counter or purchased online are unlikely to be safe, effective or able to deliver promising results. These weight loss pills may not sounds so dangerous but can still cause harm. A lot of diet pills are loaded with diuretic and caffeine that often leads to electrolyte imbalances and cell dehydration.

Cleanses and detox regimen

Cleansing for an upcoming colonoscopy is required to fully visualise your intestines, but cleansing to get rid of the body’s toxins is quite unnecessary. Cleansing may help you shed some pounds from stool and water weight, but it can also be harmful and often carries risks for electrolyte imbalance, dehydration and so much more. Losing fluids without medical consent is pretty risky especially when combined with fasting. The human body is fine tuned to get rid of toxins so these cleansing products are unnecessary and will only lead to complications. Instead of detoxifying, be mindful of your diet. If you want to cleanse and detoxify, eat high fibre foods and drink lots of water.
