Dieting may not always be an efficient and practical solution when it comes to losing weight. Here is an article that discusses sustained weight loss techniques that will last for a lifetime.

You have finally taken the plunge and made the decision lose weight.  But how often do you find yourself sabotaging your diet in only a matter of days? Forget about the diet plans and think about modifying your lifestyle. Diets usually don’t work because most people begin eating normally as soon as they have reached their ‘target weight’. If you are thinking about sustained weight loss, then you have to opt for healthier lifestyle changes. Here are seven practical tips to help you achieve ideal body physique that you have always wanted.

  • Get started today! Don’t start your new lifestyle campaign until all the unhealthy and junk foods have gone from the house. You may give it your neighbours or charitable institutions near your neighbourhood. As soon as you get rid of all the unhealthy stuff, sit down and begin planning. A healthy lifestyle needs discipline at first but you will soon get the hang of it.
  • Draft a meal planner. Learn more about healthy eating and meal planning through books and resource articles online. Try to write down a meal plan for the week. This will help you decide which foods to eat daily. No more staring at a take home menu or standing in the refrigerator trying to decide what you will have.
  • Cook the same meals for your family. Make the same meal for your entire family. You don’t want to cook for yourself vegetable risotto while the kids are having fried chicken and chips. As soon as you are clearing plates away, you will be tempted to pick at some of their leftovers and all the hard work gets thrown out at the window. Try to hide vegetables in such as finely chopped carrots in spaghetti Bolognese.
  • List down the food items that you will buy in the grocery. As soon as you are done with the planner, make a grocery list based on it. Try to stick with the plan. Don’t be easily dissuaded by special offers unless the items are on your list.
  • Never shop hungry. If you go the mall with an empty stomach, chances are, you will be tempted to purchase quick fix food items like chocolates, cakes and crisps.
  • Treat yourself occasionally. People have their own food cravings. And if you don’t treat yourself once in awhile, you are more likely to break your healthy meal plans. Choose a low calorie chocolate and save it for Saturday movie night sessions. Instead of purchasing a pint of ice cream, try to go for the ones in smaller cups.
  • Move around. Most health experts recommend at least thirty minutes of exercise, five times weekly. Any form of activity that will accelerate your heart rate will do such as brisk walking, jogging, housework, gardening and taking your dog for a walk.

It would be wise to consult your health care provider before starting an exercise program and a weight loss diet plan. This is especially true for people who have medical conditions such as diabetes, heart conditions and etc. Join an obese forum that will serve as your support group in the entire weight loss process.
